Liveaboard Diving Red Sea on MY Blue Storm

During my fourth Red Sea diving safari aboard the “MY Blue Storm,” I completed 17 dives in 6 days. The trip rekindled my passion for diving, leaving me eager for more adventures.

My 4th diving safari in the Red Sea, following trips in 2006 (Southern Route, MY Firebird), 2009 (Brothers/Daedalus, MY Thunderbird), and 2012 (Wreck/North, MY Seawolf Dominator), once again took me to Egypt’s southern route (St. Johns/Elphinstone), this time aboard the “MY Blue Storm” – a ship from the Blue Planet fleet. Apart from the strike at Stuttgart Airport, which required one of my friends to rebook with a departure from Munich, the journey there and back for my two friends and me went smoothly. Special thanks to Charly Reisen (tauch-safari.de) for their short notice about the strike. The diving safari started and ended in the port of Port Ghalib, and despite the boat being almost fully booked, there was a pleasant atmosphere among the divers.

Of the planned 20 dives, we were able to complete 17. Unfortunately, two dives had to be cancelled due to a storm, and one night dive was cancelled due to the sighting of a Longimanus, an oceanic whitetip shark. The crew of the Blue Storm provided the best service I have ever experienced. I particularly appreciated the help with getting into my suit and the careful hanging and turning of it. The warm outdoor shower was also top-notch. The Captain’s Dinner on the top deck was a special experience that was made unforgettable by the dedicated crew.

During the stay on the boat, I learned about the tragic accident of another diving safari a few weeks earlier, the MY Sea Legend from Dive Pro Liveaboards, which had sunk after a fire. An interview with survivors of this accident can be viewed here. The story made me particularly aware of the safety precautions on board the Blue Storm. Each cabin was equipped with smoke detectors, and care was taken to ensure that electrical devices were not charged in the cabins overnight. As additional safety measures, there was an axe and a small fire extinguisher in the cabins, especially in the hull. In retrospect, I am still glad that the tour went without any major incidents.

The tour will remain a beautiful memory and has reignited my desire for more, after having dived very little in the last 5-10 years.

Meine 4. Tauchsafari im Roten Meer nach 2006 (Südroute, MY Firebird), 2009 (Brothers/Daedalus, MY Thunderbird) und 2012 (Wrack/Nord, MY Seawolf Dominator) fiel wieder auf die Südroute (St. Johns/Elphinstone) Ägyptens, diesmal an Bord der “MY Blue Storm” – einem Schiff der Blue Planet Flotte. Abgesehen von dem Streik am Flughafen Stuttgart, welcher für einen meiner Freunde eine Umbuchung mit Abflug in München erforderlich machte, verlief die An- und Abreise für meine beide Freunde und mich problemlos. Besten Dank an Charly Reisen (tauch-safari.de) für ihren kurzen Hinweis zum Streik. Die Tauchsafari begann und endete im Hafen von Port Ghalib, und trotz eines fast vollständig ausgebuchten Bootes, herrschte eine angenehme Atmosphäre unter den Tauchern.

Von den geplanten 20 Tauchgängen konnten wir 17 durchführen. Leider mussten zwei Tauchgänge aufgrund eines Sturms und ein Nachttauchgang wegen der Sichtung eines Longimanus, eines Weißspitzenhochsee-Hais, abgesagt werden. Die Besatzung der Blue Storm bot den besten Service, den ich bisher erlebt habe. Besonders geschätzt habe ich die Hilfe beim Anziehen des Anzugs und das sorgfältige Aufhängen und Umdrehen dieser. Auch die warme Außendusche war top. Das Captains Dinner auf dem Top Deck war eine besondere Erfahrung, welche durch die bemühte Crew zu einem unvergesslichen Erlebnis wurde.

Während des Aufenthalts auf dem Boot erfuhr ich von dem tragischen Unglück einer anderen Tauchsafari wenige Wochen zuvor, der MY Sea Legend von Dive Pro Liveaboards, die nach einem Brand gesunken war. Ein Interview mit Überlebenden dieses Unglücks gibt es hier. Die Geschichte machte mich besonders aufmerksam auf die Sicherheitsvorkehrungen an Bord der Blue Storm. Jede Kabine war mit Rauchmeldern ausgestattet, und es wurde darauf geachtet, dass elektrische Geräte in den Kabinen nicht über Nacht geladen wurden. Als zusätzliche Sicherheitsmaßnahmen waren in den Kabinen, insbesondere im Bootsrumpf, eine Axt und ein kleiner Feuerlöscher vorhanden. Im nachhinein bin ich trotzdem froh, dass die Tour ohne große Vorkomnisse verlaufen ist.

Die Tour wird mir in schöner Erinnerung bleiben und macht mir wieder Lust auf mehr, nachdem ich die letzten 5-10 Jahre nur noch wenig getaucht bin.
