Spray chalk behaves like normal chalk: you can paint on the street, it is environmentally friendly and it washes away without leaving any residue when it rains. The advantage of spray chalk, however, is that it can be used to apply stencils wonderfully and quickly.

We really wanted to try out spray chalk, so my son and I made ourselves a pumpkin stencil for Halloween and ordered some spray chalk online (here). Before we got started, we checked the legal situation and came across this article by Fridays For Future. It states that chalk painting on public roads is not damage to property in Germany.

That was enough for us to get to work. We were so enthusiastic that we sprayed the stencil image several times on the streets. It is important to spray vertically from above, once over all areas of the stencil is enough.

We are planning to make more stencils for Christmas. It’s a great way to express yourself and not just for children. Finally, a short interview with my son to get his opinion on the spraying:

MM: Did you like the action with the spray chalk?
OM: Yes, I particularly liked the fact that I could spray them myself. And that we sprayed them everywhere.

MM: Do you think spray chalk is better than normal chalk and why?
OM: I think the spray chalk is better because you can spray with it. And because it’s so much fun.

MM: Can the spray chalk be removed with water?
OM: Yes, medium well. You could still see it a little after spraying with the water hose.

The stencil image - In honor of Halloween it has become a pumpkin. Spray vertically from above to achieve clean edges. One quick pass is sufficient. The spray test with the water hose was successful. The finished template after use.
