Eitzenberger Weiher: the idyllic all-rounder for every season
In summer, you can spend a wonderful day swimming at the Eitzenberger Weiher, which is located north of Penzberg on the A95 highway and belongs to Iffeldorf, thanks to the good water quality and the sunbathing lawn. There is a beautiful circular path around the lake from which you can enjoy the lake and the foothills of the Alps.
It is actually the Eitzenberger Weiher, a group of lakes consisting of a total of four ponds: an unnamed pond, sometimes also referred to as the Ponholzer Weiher, which drains into the Alter Weiher, and the Holzweiher, both of which feed the Neuer Weiher from different directions (source: Wikipedia). Colloquially, the Old Pond is usually referred to as the Eitzenberger Weiher.
In summer, Eitzenberger Weiher is a wonderful place to swim and relax on the sunbathing lawn. The water is pleasantly cool and the mostly pebbly bottom makes it easy to get in. There is also a small kiosk that is open in good weather. In winter, when the ice is thick enough, you can meet ice skaters and literally hear the ice speak.
In contrast to the Osterseen lakes, the Eitzenberger Weiher is far less well-known and therefore much quieter. While the sunbathing lawn is well frequented on hot summer days, outside the main season you will often only encounter a few people and can sometimes enjoy the idyllic atmosphere all to yourself.
A picturesque circular path leads around the pond and invites you to take a stroll. There are footbridges and seats along the path from which you can enjoy the sun and the magnificent view of the lake to the full.
